The Proudest Moment in My Life

The proudest moment in my life over the last year was when I shot my first Quail, a quail is a small brown bird that lives in forests and in prairies. It was a cold morning and my Dad and my friend Keely her dad, and I started our day at around 5:00 a.m. .  We were hunting for deer, so at the spot we had scooped out the day before we split up because we had more likely chance to find a deer. Well my Dad and I shot a deer and returned to the truck to wait for Keely and her Dad. After we had a deer we drove to a different spot hoping to get Keely and her Dad a deer and look for Quail. As we were on our way back to the truck, we saw a flock of Quail in the middle of the path. My Dad said shot one quick before they notice us, so that is exactly what I did. I brought my .22 up to my shoulder and took one slow deep breath, aimed and slowly squeezed the trigger. I not being completely at full alert aimed directly for the chest of the Quail, at around 50 feet away the poor bird exploded. All the other birds stood still for several moments not reliezing what had just happened. I had to take whatever I could salvage from the feathers, I'll spare you the details of what the body looked like lets just say I only got half of the breast. From my miss shot though I learned not to shot a bird though the breast because that is a bad idea always go for the head. The fact that I had finally killed my first animal was a very proud moment for me, I felt like I had earned my place in the group.
This is the kind of Quail I shot.
